A Warm Welcome from the Wetzel Family

The Story of Springs Lodge & Cafe

Over twenty years ago, our family decided to leave the hustle and bustle of the California Coast to settle in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Saying adios to the coast and hello to a new life in mountain time, we came to Hot Springs bringing our taste and love for wine, appreciation for delicious cuisine, and more than anything else, the dream of opening a business our whole family could participate in.

Being new to the world of entrepreneurialism, we started small, literally, in a drive-thru coffee kiosk serving gourmet hot and iced beverages along with fresh fruit smoothies. Soon enough, we made a name for ourselves and had quite the morning crowd that rolled through our business daily. This got us thinking. We could offer some food to wash those drinks down with. The rest, as they say, is history.

As time often does, it has changed us from where we were, and fortunately enough, allowed us to grow our business into a full-fledged restaurant, Woolly’s Grill and Cellar. Operating Woolly’s has indeed been a passion and pleasurable pursuit of our entire family for many years. We’ve forged friendships with guests, our staff, and people who were once complete strangers from across the globe. It has provided us with countless memories that we’ll carry with us for many years ahead.

In the spirit of hospitality, we felt a new calling in 2020 to pursue a different business venture in Hot Springs, purchasing America’s Best Value Inn by the River in historic downtown Hot Springs. Along with the hotel venture, we felt this was the perfect opportunity to return to our roots and offer convenient, fresh, and flavorful foods within the original kiosk that started it all.

Our family has been blessed with the opportunity to expand from our simple coffee kiosk almost 20 years ago to a full restaurant, a casual dining and coffee offering, along with a fully renovated lodge in a beautiful, historic setting.

So, on behalf of our family and our friends that make up Springs Lodge & Cafe, we thank you for your continued support and look forward to what the future may bring.
